Digital Pet Oil Painting — Custom Portrait from Your Photo, Printable File
$30.00
“A photograph catches a moment. A painting holds something more.”
Send us your favourite photo and we will transform it into a hand-crafted digital oil painting — your pet rendered in warm, painterly strokes, ready to print at any size. Delivered as a high-resolution digital file within 1–3 business days. Created by hand in Calgary, Alberta, by Michelle and Evan.
A photograph tells you where they were. A painting tells you how they felt.
There is something a photograph cannot quite do. It catches light and angle and a single fixed moment — but it does not carry texture, or warmth, or the quality of being seen the way that paint does. A painted portrait of a pet is not a record. It is an interpretation — an attempt to put into image something about the animal that the camera always just misses. That softness behind the eyes. The particular way they held themselves. The weight of them in a room.
Send us a photo and we will render your pet in a hand-crafted digital oil painting style — brushwork built layer by layer, warm and textured, with the colours and tones drawn from your photo and refined by hand. Any pet, any breed, any coat length or colour — if you have a clear photo, we can paint them. The finished file arrives in high resolution, ready to print at home or at a print shop at any size you choose. Created in Calgary, Alberta, by Michelle and Evan — two people with two senior cats of their own, and a particular understanding of why a painting like this matters.

Photo tips

What makes a strong painting reference: A photo with good natural light where your pet’s face, fur texture, and expression are clearly visible. A moment where they look like themselves — resting, alert, or simply being the animal they are. Phone photos near a window in daylight are often excellent. The more detail in the original photo, the more we have to work with.
Portraits vs full body: Head and shoulder portraits tend to produce the most striking paintings — the face fills more of the frame and expression comes through clearly. Full body shots also work well, particularly for animals with a distinctive posture or shape. Let us know which you prefer and we will frame the painting accordingly.
What to avoid: Photos in heavy shadow, or where your pet is backlit and their face is dark against a bright background. Very blurry images, or photos where the face is turned away or obscured. Low-resolution images (under 800 px on either side) limit the detail achievable in the painting.
Not sure whether your photo will work? Send it to us before ordering — we will give you an honest assessment.
How it’s made

Each painting is built by hand from your photo using digital tools — not a filter, not an automated effect, but a deliberate, layer-by-layer process of building brushwork, tone, and texture in a style that reads as oil on canvas. Fur is rendered strand by strand in places. Light is considered. The background is simplified or replaced with warm tones that let your pet’s face come forward. The goal is not to replicate the photo but to interpret it — to find the version of the image that feels truest to the animal it depicts.
What you receive:
- A high-resolution digital file (JPG and PNG) delivered via email within 1–3 business days of receiving and approving your photo
- Print-ready at any standard size — 8×10″, 12×16″, 16×20″, or larger at a print shop
- Personal use licence — for printing, framing, and sharing privately

Giving this as a gift — for a birthday, a gotcha day, a loss, or simply because you know someone who would want a painting of their pet? A digital file is immediate and flexible: they can print it at home, order a canvas at a local shop, or have it framed to whatever size suits the space. We are happy to include a personal message in the delivery email if you let us know at checkout.

Store your digital file in at least two places — a cloud folder and a local drive — so you always have a copy regardless of what happens to any one device.
Because each painting is created by hand specifically from your photo, we are unable to offer refunds once work has begun. If the finished painting does not match what was agreed, or if something essential was missed, please reach out — we will always try to resolve it. Send us a message any time before or after ordering.
Questions about this product
Is this made by hand, or is it an AI or filter effect?
It is made by hand — built layer by layer using digital tools, not generated by AI or processed through an automated filter. Each painting takes real time and real decisions: what to keep, what to soften, how to handle the light. The result looks like a painting because it is worked like one.
Can I use the file for printing at a shop — canvas, large print?
Yes. The file is delivered at a resolution suitable for professional printing at standard sizes up to roughly 20×24″. For very large format prints, reach out before ordering and we can discuss whether a higher-resolution output is possible.
Can I include two pets in one painting?
Reach out before ordering and we will let you know what is possible and whether the price changes. Two pets in one clear photo together is usually feasible; two separate photos composited into one painting requires more work and is priced accordingly.
Do you send a preview before the final file?
Yes, always. We send a watermarked preview for your approval before delivering the final high-resolution file. If something does not feel right — colour, expression, a detail — let us know and we will adjust it before the final file is sent.
Can this be used as a memorial for a pet who has passed?
Yes — and this is one of the most meaningful uses of a painting. An older or lower-resolution photo of a pet who has passed can still make a beautiful result. Sometimes the imperfection of an older photo is part of what makes the painting feel true. Send us what you have. We will tell you what we can do with it, and we will handle it with care.
